No, ichthyology is not a cult of abnormal selfish Germans. It is much more known as the science of fishes. It’s also a specialization of zoology and always an acceptable activity for fish enthusiasts. It is not known if Arezu Weitholz is ichthyologist or even involved in the Society of Ichthyologists (SoI), but it is a fact that she seems to know a lot about these creatures. Her result of the latest research is published in Mein lieber Fisch. This work is more than boring paragraphs about biodiversity and the behavior of fishes. Her study is versified and lovely illustrated. She writes about physiognomy of fishes and introduces the scientolofish, presents perceptions of the Pangasius (shark catfish) in China and the detailed relationship between fisher and fish. Trusting Marcel Reich-Ranicki some writers understand less than birds from ornithology. In contrast, Arezu Weitholz rules the ichthyology of poetry.
